I love Nick Hornby. I haven’t read a book of his that I didn’t like. HOW TO BE GOOD, I struggled with.
The story begins with a woman, having an affair and fretting over whether she should leave her husband and two children. Her husband learns of her indiscretion, and instead of freaking out and demanding a divorce, he turns not to God, but to a faith healer. The husband figures he could have done more to make his wife feel loved and happy, so he goes on a crusade of sorts, trying to make everyone else in the world happy. He winds up making his children miserable by giving away their things, and even his wife is miserable with his new and improved “goodness.”
I won’t give away the ending, but it’s a good read and you can find it at your local bookstore or order it here. I still love Nick Hornby, but he made me think on this one.
